Webb9 maj 2013 · It possible that this metal severed the pipe when I had the refrigerator pulled out to paint over the weekend which caused the small leak, then pulling out the refrigerator again to check for the leak caused the cut to get bigger. If yours doesn’t, consider installing an in-line filter. It will have similar ¼” compression fittings, and can be installed quickly at any point in the tubing running to your fridge.

Just make sure the outside end of the pipe is deburred and shove the fitting on. As for longevity bite fittings have so far held up well for me if used when there is no strain on the fitting.
