To test, I started it in safe mode, and let it sit without my touching it for a couple of hours. The battery level dropped almost 30% during that time. (5400RPM) I installed throttlestop and that did help to cool down the CPU and marginally improve the battery life. But for the GPU, I can't seem to find a way to tone it down.
