WebA crystalis made up of one or more atoms, called the basisor motif, at each lattice point. The basismay consist of atoms, molecules, or polymerstrings of solid matter, and the lattice provides the locations of the basis. Two Bravais lattices are often considered equivalent if they have isomorphic symmetry groups. Crystals can be classified in three ways: lattice systems, crystal systems and crystal families. The various classifications are often confused: in particular the trigonal crystal system is often confused with the rhombohedral lattice system, and the term "crystal system" is sometimes used to mean "lattice system" or "crystal family".
